Junior

Golf

Inspiring the next generation of golfers.

Our Junior Golf Programme helps young golfers learn the fundamentals, build confidence, and enjoy the game in a fun and supportive environment, utilising our world-class training facilities.

We follow the Operation 36 development pathway – a global golf programme where players start from 25 yards and try to shoot 36 for 9 holes. As they improve, the course length increases to challenge their ability and skill level.

McKenzie Selinger, Trainee Professional

McKenzie Selinger – Junior Golf Coordinator

McKenzie is a Trainee Professional at the Sir Bob Charles Golf Centre and is now in the second year of his PGA Traineeship. He manages the centre’s Junior Program, which operates every term in structured 8-week cycles and provides a clear pathway for young golfers to learn, develop, and enjoy the game.

Within the Junior Program, McKenzie works with players on the core skills of golf including grip, setup, swing fundamentals, short game technique, and putting. Sessions also introduce important on-course skills such as etiquette, rules, course management, and building confidence playing with others. The program is designed to be fun and engaging while steadily developing strong fundamentals that allow juniors to progress through the different stages of the game.

McKenzie is also available to coach a wide range of players, from complete beginners through to golfers looking to advance their golf game.

Mentored by Rodney Yee, McKenzie brings a calm, detail-driven approach to every lesson. His coaching focuses on helping players understand their own game and make steady, confident progress in the way they train and play.

What is Operation 36?

How it Works

Start close to the hole (25 yards), not the tee
Play 9 holes with a target score of 36 or better
Progress back through levels as scores improve
Clear, structured pathway from beginner to full course

Why it’s Effective

Short game first – faster scoring improvement
On-course learning – decision-making, pressure, real golf
Achievable milestones – keeps juniors engaged each term
Progress at own pace – inclusive across all ability levels

How it Fits Our Programme

Foundation (Levels 1–2): Confidence, basics, understanding the game
Development (Levels 3–5): Distance control, consistency, shot selection
Advanced (Levels 6+): Course play, scoring

Coaching Integration

Led by McKenzie Selinger, mentored by Rodney Yee
Combines technical coaching (range) with on-course application
Regular challenges and benchmarks to track progress

The Outcome

Juniors learn how to score, not just swing
Clear progression keeps players and parents engaged
Builds confident golfers ready for on-course play

Our Junior Programme

The junior programme runs in 8-week blocks aligned with the school terms. Each player attends one coaching session per week led by one of our PGA professionals, in a small group environment – max 6 per class.

These programmes are for all ages based on the Operation 36 Levels. As a guide, our youngest participants are generally 5 years old and our oldest are close to finishing high school.

Players progress through the levels based on Operation 36 results and coaching assessment. As players progress, they also receive additional rewards and training tools to support their development.

Each junior will receive a starter package when they join the programme.

Our starter pack includes:
Sir Bob Charles Junior Cap
Sir Bob’s Juniors Golf Shirt
